ABERFILE Studio Manager was introduced in the spring of 1983. Since this date 100s of competing software packages have come and gone. Only Aberfile has survived the test of time from: "cp/m, the small business computer operating platform of the 70-80s" to "Dos, the platform of the 80s-90s" to "Windows 7 the current business operating platform. (Designed to incorporate and automate the functions of the "Family History Card" Aberfile made it simple and fast for photographers to direct studio promotions to it's Preferred Customers.) Album Arranger was introduced in the summer of 1985 to automate the meany chores of wedding orders and album design. In 1981 Charles Abernethy a Portrait Studio owner in Santa Barbara Calif. purchased a computer to help keep track of his clients and their purchases. It soon became apparent that existing database software could store much of the needed information but they were not able to sort selected bits of this information to generate the needed client list. This task required writing custom reporting software. After about a year of writing custom reporting software and studying computer science text books on database design it it was realized that general purpose database software were inefficient and awkward to use. By designing software from the ground up it could be custom tailored to the special needs of the photography studio. Charles Abernethy's goal was to develop a client database with detailed invoicing, order tracking, client history, inter active appointment scheduling, billing, mailing, and comprehensive reporting that was still easy and fast to use. Aberfile and Album Arranger with the input of hundreds of professional photographers over the past 29 years has remained at the leading edge of studio and wedding photographers business software. With the advent of Digital Images and the need for Presentation and Sales Software the Digital Sales Room was developed to enable studios to streamline digital image work flow. |
